New Wheels and Tyres - Why?

The trailer also recieved some welcome new wheels and tyres to replace the old worn out and perished rubber on the previous tyres. The old wheels are now going to be recycled for the steel and they were both unfit for use again through corrosion damage, and they were also different (not a matching pair) Interestingly, one of the wheels was an old Austin mini wheel 101.6mm PCD which is very common on old trailers. This has now been replaced by a pair of wheels with no 'offset' so they are spaced evenly at either side of the body. Perished rubber tyres are often the cause of many trailer breakdown and accidents, as the tyre rubber often breaks down before the grip of the tyre is actually worn out, so many tyres on caravans and trailers continue to be towed on tyres that are very old, sometimes resulting in a 'blow out' on the road! We plan to make our trailer as reliable as possible so we can concentrate on working on our project karts and greenpower car!
